The herd was established through importation of heifers, cows and a stock bull in the early 1990’s. All stock were bought on-farm with particular emphasis paid to regularity of breeding and consistent female lines. The stock were selected for early fleshing ability and excellent feet.

The first stock bull was “Celtic Ikao”. His dam was Champion heifer in Denmark , a daughter of Glenleary Balzac. His sire “Fakir”, a 3rd prize winner in Vichy and bred by Mr Beningon, son-in-law of A. Raymond. Ikao was performance tested in Denmark, with daily gain of 4.23 lbs/dy on test and very good eye muscle area.

Once Ikao’s heifers entered the herd AI was widely used, and an number of the top females in the herd are now by Ecrin, Indurain, and Jupiter.
